Yello is a German energy provider that supplies private households with electricity and gas, and it also has tariffs for heat pumps. If you are about to switch anyway, you can get a cash reward from Coin7 for it, as long as you start on our side and then sign up with Yello in the normal way. The reward is a fixed amount per confirmed new contract, not a percentage, and the current amount is always on our shop page.

What Yello offers

Yello sells electricity and gas, either separately or as a combination. Next to that there are tariffs for heat pump electricity, offers for commercial customers, charging solutions for electric cars and solar products. The company says its electricity is 100 percent renewable, and it runs everything digitally: you choose a tariff, enter your postcode and consumption, and manage the contract later in the Mein Yello customer portal or in the app.

That is the main idea behind Yello. You do not talk to a salesperson or fill in paper forms. If you are comfortable doing things online, this is quick. If you prefer a person at a counter, you may find it a bit impersonal.

Who it is for

Yello is aimed at households in Germany. It fits you if you live in a flat or house with your own electricity or gas meter, you pay more than you would like in a default tariff, and you are happy to handle the contract online. It is less interesting if you are looking for a quick change of address service with a human advisor, or if your property is supplied through a collective heating system where you cannot choose a provider at all.

People who move house often use a move as the moment to compare. A new contract is easy to start before the move-in date, which saves you from ending up in the expensive default supply of the local provider.

What to check before you sign

An energy contract is not like a pair of shoes. The tariff can run for a fixed period, the price can be tied to a guarantee or not, and the details sit in the terms of the tariff you pick. Look at these points on the Yello page before you click on order:
