Booking.com Tips: Cancellation, Room Rates and Cashback

September 19, 2026

The best way to book a stay on Booking.com is to look at the cancellation terms before you look at the price, then compare the rate options for the room you like. Cashback comes on top, as long as you start from Coin7 and keep the booking in one visit.

Read the cancellation terms first

Many properties on Booking.com offer free cancellation, but not every room and not every rate. The terms are shown on the booking screen, and they belong to that specific offer, not to the hotel as a whole. Two guests can look at the same property and see different conditions.

Ask yourself three things before you pay: until when can I cancel, what happens if I cancel later, and is anything paid right away? If your plans are firm, a stricter option may be fine. If you are booking four months ahead for a trip that depends on leave being approved, free cancellation is worth a bit more than a small price gap.

One more habit: write the cancellation deadline into your calendar on the day you book. People rarely lose money because the rules were hidden. They lose it because the deadline passed on a Tuesday evening and nobody noticed.

Compare the room rates, not only the hotels

The same room is often offered in more than one version. The differences usually sit in the small print, so line them up side by side:

  • Cancellation: free until a date, or not at all
  • Payment: pay now, or pay at the property
  • Meals: with breakfast or without
  • Room type and bed setup, which can change between offers

A cheaper rate is only cheaper if it fits your trip. A rate that cannot be cancelled is a fair deal when you are sure about the dates, and a bad one when you are not. Also check what the total price includes, because taxes and fees may be shown separately or added at a later step.

Use guest reviews, but read them sensibly

Reviews from previous guests are one of the strongest tools on the site, but a single score tells you little. Look at the number of reviews first. Then read the recent ones, since a place can change after a renovation or a change of management. Pay attention to things that repeat: noise, cleanliness, the real distance to the beach or station, the state of the bathroom.

A review that says the location was far from the centre is more useful than five that say it was nice. And if you travel with children or need a quiet room, look for reviews from people in a similar situation.

Add cashback without breaking the booking

Cashback is simple if you do it in the right order. Start from Coin7, click through to the shop, search and book in the same session. Do not collect prices on other sites in between and come back through a different link. Cashback counts for accommodation, car rentals, attractions and flights, without taxes and fees, and it is confirmed after your trip. If you cancel, there is none.

That last point should not drive your decision. Do not keep a booking you no longer want just to save the cashback. A cancelled trip costs you nothing extra if the cancellation was free, and cashback is a bonus, not a reason to travel. The current rate is shown on our shop page.

How to get cashback on Booking.com

Open Coin7 and go to the shop page Booking.com. Press the button to the shop and book as usual in the same visit. The cashback shows as pending and is confirmed after your trip or once the cancellation period is over. Use vouchers only if they come from our site, because a code from elsewhere can cancel the cashback.

Frequently asked questions

Is free cancellation available for every stay?

No. Many properties offer it, but it depends on the property and on the rate you choose. It is shown on the booking screen.

Do I lose cashback if I change my dates?

That depends on how the change is handled. If the booking is cancelled and a new one is made outside the Coin7 visit, the new one may not be tracked. Check your account and, if in doubt, click through from Coin7 again.

Can I rely on guest reviews?

They help most when you read many of them and focus on recent comments and repeated points rather than the average score alone.

Where do I find the current cashback rate?

On our Booking.com shop page. We do not list rates in articles because they change.
